We gathered for our Hawkes Bay Teacher's meeting last Friday. When I say "we" there was a whole three of us. There are are 17 teachers who are interested in meeting and all were busy except for us three. Kirsten had to rush off so that left Jenny and myself. Now Jenny had turned up because she was going to share some research on the Om Symbol. This was great because it meant I was the benificiary of what she had put together. And very interesting it was too. Each part of the symbol has a meaning. It can be used as a metaphor for the yoga process going from a dream state to transcendence. The symbol/sound stands for supreme truth, representing creation. It is the primal sound; the cosmic vibration of the universe. In chanting "om" we quieten the senses, improve focus and connect the consciousness to higher truth . Jenny had a lot more information but, as they say, you had to be there.
I have been practising Ashtanga Yoga in Napier since 1992.
During this period I have worked with an inflexible body to progress through the primary series.
When our regular teacher left the area in 1999 I took over teaching duties. This has been an extremely rewarding experience.
I teach in:Taradale Monday nights, Napier Wednesday nights and Hastings Thursday nights.
My professional development includes workshops with Patthabi Jois in Sydney in 1997 and Auckland in 1999.
A highlight of my year is attending a 3 week workshop with Peter Sanson in Gisborne starting every year on 28th December.
My expertise has been assisted by workshops with John Scott, Donna Farhi and Simon Borg-Olivier.
I am now a certified IYTA teacher.

Starting my Yoga practices in 1970 I trained in London with experts in the philosophical and physical aspects of Yoga. This transformational experience led to The Albion Yoga Movement Teaching Diploma qualification.
I maintained a daily Yoga practice that continues to sustain my physical and spiritual growth.
In 2000 I began practising Ashtanga and teaching Hatha Yoga in Hawke’s Bay. Completing the IYTA Teaching Diploma and various workshops, including Peter Sanson and John Scott, have contributed to my self-development.
